Device usage dashboard

Introducing the Device Usage dashboard in Datascape

Sometimes when a team releases a new app version, they expect to see the impact in their metrics. Then nothing changes. The reason is often pretty straightforward: users need time to update. Days or even weeks after a release, a large share of the audience may still be running the previous version. The same applies to OS updates, SDK versions, and other device-level attributes.

That’s why we’ve introduced the Device Usage dashboard in Datascape.

The dashboard shows how your active users are distributed across app versions, OS versions, SDK versions, and ATT status. Knowing what users are actually running puts every other metric in context, and helps teams make better decisions about everything else they measure.

Understand your active user base at a glance

The Device Usage dashboard comes preconfigured with visualizations that make it easy to understand how your active users are distributed across key app and device attributes.

The dashboard includes pre-built widgets that visualize DAU across the app and device attributes that most often influence performance trends:

  • DAU by SDK Version to track SDK adoption and identify older SDK versions that remain active.
  • DAU by OS Version (iOS) to understand which iOS versions your active users are running.
  • DAU by OS Version (Android) to visualize Android version distribution across your audience.
  • DAU by App Version (iOS) to monitor adoption of new releases and identify older versions still in active use.
  • DAU by App Version (Android) to evaluate upgrade velocity across Android users.
  • DAU by ATT Status to understand how iOS active users are distributed across ATT consent states.

Rather than building reports from scratch, teams can immediately begin exploring adoption trends and identifying changes that may warrant further investigation.

Monitor adoption across app versions, operating systems, and SDKs

With Device Usage reporting, teams can quickly identify whether performance changes are concentrated within specific app versions, OS versions, SDK versions, or device segments.

For example:

  • Track SDK adoption to understand how many active users have migrated to the latest SDK version and identify older versions that remain in use after an upgrade.
  • Compare app versions to monitor adoption of new releases and determine whether engagement changes are concentrated on a particular version.
  • Monitor OS adoption to understand whether users on newer operating systems behave differently from those on older versions.
  • Combine device and country dimensions to understand whether audience composition is influencing performance across markets.

The Device Usage dashboard is powered by the following supported app and device reporting dimensions:

  • App Version
  • OS Name
  • OS Version
  • OS Version Major
  • Device Type
  • SDK Version
  • ATT Status
  • Country
  • Language
  • Date

Get started in Datascape

The Device Usage dashboard is available as a pre-built dashboard template in Datascape, making it easy to start analyzing your active user base without creating reports manually.

To access the template:

  1. Open Datascape
  2. Select Dashboards > All dashboards
  3. Find Device Usage in the list of templates
  4. Adapt the settings as required, then save the template as a new dashboard.

Whether you're planning a new SDK rollout, validating a new app release, monitoring OS adoption, or adding context to performance analysis, the Device Usage dashboard helps you quickly understand how your active users are distributed across your app ecosystem.
